Mario Barrios has the oppurtunity of a lifetime in front of him when he faces Gervonta "Tank" Davis. Although it is Barrios who is the champion, he is the b-side of this fight and he is expected to lose and probably get knocked out. The reason why this fight got made is beacause Tank´s handlers saw Barrios fight against Akhmedov and they saw him struggle badly in that fight. They look at him as vulnerable, and he is also fairly young and inexperienced at the top level. If that wasn´t enough, Barrios also holds the WBA regular super lightweight belt so they saw a great oppurtunity to make Tank a three division World Champion. We can tell you right away that this fight no matter how it ends will be a very difficult fight for Tank. Barrios is a big strong guy with decent power. Barrios will present a much tougher challenge then Leo Santa Cruz did and Santa Cruz was doing pretty good in that fight despite him being a true 122-pounder. When Barrios is at his best, you can see glimpses of Andre Ward´s style in the way he holds his guard up and moves around. Virgil Hunter must have seen some of the mistakes that Barrios has been doing and we expect them to have worked on the flaws.
Barrios is full of confidence and he has never learned how to lose. We believe that he will perform very well in this fight with Virgil Hunter´s game plan and advice in the corner. There is a reasonable chance that Tank gets frustrated if things aren´t going his way and and sometimes he employs rough tactics. A disqulification in this fight is something that could happen. We found value in Barrios to win by ko/tko/disqualification which pays a big +1000 (11.00 decimal odds) and that is the play here.
