Patrick Teixeira vs. Brian Castano

12 rounds, for Teixeiras WBO junior middleweight title

Patrick Texeira vs. Brian Castano is a very intriguing match-up. When the fight opened Castano was priced at around -300 (1.33 decimal odds) and since then he is now an even bigger favorite currently priced at -450 (1.22 decimal odds) which we think is just way overpriced. The fight is much closer than that in our opinion. Texeira has been undervalued before, most recently against Carlos Adames where he was a major underdog and he pulled of the upset. He is better than he looks at first glance. We think that Castano should be favored but just briefly. Brian Castano is not the biggest one punch destroyer but he is accurate with his punches and just all around good in every department. Another thing that makes him hard to beat is the amount of punches he throws per round which makes it difficult for lesser fighters to win rounds against him. Even Erislandy Lara who is a superior technically skilled fighter struggled badly against Castano and his volume. Texeira like we mentioned is coming of a win against Carlos Adames where he was given no chance to win what so ever by practically anyone. Adames was big and strong, had an undefeated record of 18-0 with 14 ko´s and he looked like a future star. Texeira was able to beat a guy like that. The reason why nobody gives Texeira credit is the fact that they can´t get over his knockout loss to Curtis Stevens. We have to remember that Stevens in his best days was a big puncher. Furthermore, Texeira looks to have developed and improved very much since that loss. He was also fighting a division above at middleweight which is worth considering. Since the loss to Stevens, Texeira has faced other punchers in Carlos Adames and Nathaniel Gallimore and he was able to deal with their power without any issues. There is a size difference here between Texeira and Castano with Texeira looking like the naturally bigger man.

The first thing we see happening in this fight is that it Goes The Distance which is priced at -140 (1.72 decimal odds). Texeira has proven his worth and that he is in fact capable of taking hard punches on the chin without folding and Castano isn´t the biggest puncher. Texeira is good but also not the biggest puncher and Castano has good defense. Both guys are very tough and durable and with the things we mentioned we see this fight going the distance. There is also good value in placing a small bet on Texeira to win by Decision which pays out +700 (8.00 decimal odds) and the fight to be declared a draw at +2000 (21.00 decimal odds). The main bet is the fight to "Go the Distance".
