Billy Joe Saunders vs. Martin Murray

12 rounds, for Saunders WBO super middleweight title

The last time we saw Billy Joe Saunders in the ring he looked less than impressive for the first 10 rounds. He was in real danger of losing the fight against a guy he shouldn´t be losing a single round to. He managed to end the fight very suddenly stopping his opponent Marcelo Coceres seemingly out of nowhere in the 11th round and that was impressive stuff. We learned in that fight that Saunders can punch hard enough and with enough accuracy to get guys out of there even that late in a fight. Saunders is otherwise not known as a power puncher but we have seen enough from him in the past to know that the combination of his accuracy and skills makes some of his punches land with good power as he showed against David Lemieux and Andy Lee. Lemieux who is a tough come forward fighter was very hesitant after the opening round with Saunders as if he had lost confidence already be that point. Saunders at his best is a very good boxer. Martin Murray has always had a good chin and he is not easy to stop. The only one that has managed to do it was Gennady Golovkin at a time when Golovkin was at his best. Even in that fight he managed to survive for 11 rounds before he was done. However, Murray is now 38 years old and he has looked deteriorated as of late. He might not have enough in the tank to go 12 fast paced rounds if he is in with someone that is better than him. Murray is a big underdog for obvious reasons in this fight and it would be a big upset if he were to win this. (sign in to view our prediction & pick)

Martin Murray at his best was decent but never good enough to beat someone like Billy Joe Saunders who we expect to be in good form now. Saunders will win most of the rounds and cruise to a clear decision if Murray is somewhat able to fend him off. If it happens to be that Murray looks declined for any reason, we believe that Saunders will take advantage of that and force a stoppage in the last 4 rounds between 9-12. The Pick is Billy Joe Saunders to win by Decision for a price of -300 (1.33 decimal odds) and the a smaller bet on Bill Joe Saunders to win in Rounds 9-12 for a price of +750 (8.50 decimal odds)
