Devin Haney faces Yuriorkis Gamboa in an interesting match-up. Haney probably wouldn´t have been facing Gamboa had not Gervonta Davis faced him last year. His handlers is putting him in with an opponent who will serve as a good measuring stick to find out at what level Haney really is at. Haney has been talking this week leading up to the fight hoe he will try to be perfect against Gamboa and not get caught by something dangerous. Gamboa is naturally a very talented and gifted fighter but he is well past his best now. He is coming off that knockout loss to Davis where he took a beating for 12 rounds before finally getting stopped. He fought through most of that fight with a hurt ankle which shows you how tough this guy really is. In this fight Gamboa will be severly undersized as he has been against most 135-pounders. Lets remember, Gamboa captured Olympic Gold at the 112 pound limit as an amateur. You can argue that his best fighting weight class as a professional, had he stayed disciplined, would have been nothing above 126 pounds. At that division he would have been a big problem to almost anyone in his prime days. Devin Haney seems to have all the talent in the world and this fight is made to make him look good. It is expected that Gamboa will get stopped again here. (sign in to view our prediction & pick)
Haney is an exceptional talent and he is ready without a doubt for this faded version of Gamboa. It is likely that he stops Gamboa but not a certain thing to happen. He should be able to do it but we see that more likely as a case of him wearing down Gamboa and stopping him as oppose to catching him early with a big shot. The Pick is Devin Haney to win this fight.
