Terri Harper (10-0) will face Natasha Jonas (9-1) in her first defense of the WBC super featherweight title she won by beating Eva Wahlstrom earlier this year. Wahlstrom had earlier only lost to Katie Taylor but that was a weight class above her own and she had a draw against Ronica Jeffreys 2 years ago, The point of that is that it was clear that Harper didn´t beat the best version of Wahlstrom like in her earlier days. Wahlstrom is now soon to be 40 years old. This is not to take away from Harper´s talent which she obviously has plenty of. Harper´s best win is Walhstrom and she also has a win over Viviane Obenauf who happens to be the one that pulled of an enormous upset when she stopped Natasha Jonas. It was a difficult fight for Jonas. She was knocked down several times and after the first knockdown which was the hardest one, she never regained her sense of balance and it all went downhill after that. Interesting fact about Viviane Obenauf is that within her 6 losses, she has herself been stopped 2 times against Chantelle Cameron and Maiva Hamadouche but here is the thing. She has never been knocked out or down. In both her fights where she got stopped, she retired in the corner between rounds and not stopped in the usual way and that shows a lot to her toughness. That is part of why she had the success she had with Jonas because she was able with her unorthodox wild style to just walk straight forward throwing wild punches. She did hit the jackpot in the Jonas fight as one of her haymakers hit the mark. Obenauf hasn´t been able to record another win of the same magnitude again. Harper is a big favorite to win this fight and a big part of that is because of Jonas fight with Obenauf which basically changed the whole perception of her. Had she won that fight she would be going in to this fight with odds pretty much close to 50/50. Not only did she lose, she was knocked down several times like we mentioned and more than that, she looked fragile in that fight. Therefor Terri harper is a – 1000 favorite (1.10 decimal odds) and Jonas is priced at +600 (7.00 decimal odds). It is a great possibility that Natasha Jonas simply underestimated Obeanauf in that fight because Obenauf was coming of that stoppage loss to Chantelle Cameron so maybe she thought it would be an easy night and perhaps she didn´t prepare in the best of ways. She has had a long time to recover from this loss and we are sure that she will have improved and will not be making the mistake of walking straight back when trying to avoid shots. One thing we do know about Jonas in this fight is that she is in the shape of her life. She is mentally prepared and she has been saying all the right things in the lead up. She knows that this is her big opportunity to become World Champion and she believes in herself. Jonas has a large amount of amateur experience and her technique is very good.
